BroadBand Light (BBL™️) treatments have a reputation for safely and efficiently addressing signs of aging, sun damage, rosacea, and acne. Using pulses of broadband light, this gentle yet precise and powerful treatment corrects common skin concerns on the face and body to reveal more vibrant, healthy skin. But, is it possible that this treatment actually makes your skin younger?

A new study led by dermatologist Dr. Anne Lynne S. Chang of the Stanford University School of Medicine has found evidence that BBL treatments can, in fact, promote youthful skin on a molecular level. The study, recently published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, “shows that Sciton BroadBand Light (BBL™️) treatments can change the expression of genes associated with the aging process to more closely resemble young skin” and that “regulators of aging can be altered in human skin using BBL technology to provide a functional change, rather than just a cosmetic mimic of youthful appearance.”

What does this mean? Essentially, not only do BBL treatments cause your skin to appear more youthful, they can actually induce molecular changes to reverse skin changes and cause your skin to become more youthful.

How does it work?

BBL treatments apply pulses of broadband light to the skin. Once this light is selectively absorbed by its target, the body begins to work to eliminate these damaged cells. Over a period of four to seven days following treatment, the skin is renewed.

The molecular changes this study refers to won’t occur overnight, of course. We often recommend an initial series of 3-5 BBL treatments, spaced three to four weeks apart. From there, treatments can be repeated as needed for maintenance.
